M.W. Craven’s Favorites of 2021

Mike Craven

Mystery readers in the U.S. have been denied the opportunity of reading the work of one of the best practitioners of the art of crime writing because for some unfathomable reason, no U.S. publisher has picked up his series yet. His first novel THE PUPPET SHOW won the CWA Gold Dagger Award in the U.K. I read it and thought it was fabulous! And the subsequent novels in the series are also very, very good. I hope that a U.S. publisher will come to its senses soon so Mike can develop a much-deserved wider readership. His 2021 title DEAD GROUND is on my list of best crime novels of 2021 (it was also on DP Reviewer LJ Roberts’ list of best of 2021). I can hardly wait to read his next novel THE BOTANIST coming out in June, 2022. His work is well worth going to Book Depository and ordering (free shipping to U.S.) copies.

Now to the purpose of this post. Mike recently posted on his website his list of favorite books, tv, movies and music, as well as other news about his work. I was particularly interested in his list of books. A couple stood out to me: The Bangalore Detectives Club by Harini Nagendra (2022) and Even the Darkest Night by Javier Cercas (2022). These are both being published in the U.S. in 2022. I agree with his high regard for Billy Summers by Stephen King (2021) and The Dying Day by Vaseem Khan (2021).

Check out the information-packed post.
