In Issue #91 I wrote a small article called Introducing…Steph Broadribb. In it I talked about Steph’s background and her Lori Anderson series of four books set in the Southern U.S. I liked that series and praised it highly.
Steph now has the first of a new series called DEATH IN THE SUNSHINE, which takes place in a Florida retirement community. When a young woman is found floating in a pool, dead from a gunshot wound to her chest, it becomes apparent that the police aren’t doing a very good job of investigating the crime. So four residents, who are retired from various policing careers, band together to find justice for the young woman. At first glance, this might seem to be a knock-off of The Thursday Murder Club series by Richard Osman, but there are more differences than similarities. The main one being that the detectives in DEATH IN THE SUNSHINE aren’t amateur detectives. They are police detectives — just retired — who haven’t forgotten the skills they earned over long careers.
Each month, amazon.com offers to its U.S. prime customers Kindle editions of books for free or for a nominal fee as part of it Amazon First Reads program. A Kindle edition of DEATH IN SUNSHINE is offered this month for free. You just have to be a U.S. Amazon Prime member, have a Kindle or a Kindle app on a tablet device and go in and order it on your account. I did and have already read and enjoyed the last Steph Broadribb novel, billed as a Retired Detectives Club novel. A sequel is planned for late Fall of 2022.
