Two Mystery/Suspense Writers Return After Long Hiatus

It’s a publishing axiom that a writer needs to get a book out every year to keep a career alive. Someone forgot to give Terry Hayes (I AM PILGRIM) the message.

But I just happened to notice two writers who have books coming out this fall whom seemed to me to have not published in quite a while. So I checked it out and I was right.

Alan Bradley

First is Alan Bradley, author of the Flavia de Luce series about a precocious young amateur detective. His first book, A SWEETNESS AT THE BOTTOM OF THE PIE (2009) won our Barry Award for Best First Novel and also a CWA Debut Dagger, an Agatha and a Dilys Award. The last in the series, THE GOLDEN TRESSES OF THE DEAD was published in 2019. Then silence — until now. WHAT TIME THE SEXTON’S SPADE DOTH RUST will be published in September of this year.

Tami Hoag

The other author whose absence I noticed (although I don’t read her works) is Tami Hoag. Her last book was published in 2018. BAD LIAR, the third in her Broussard and Fourcade series, will be published this September as well.

Welcome back.
