The Times 14 Best Crime Books of 2023
by Joan Smith and Mark Sanderson
DEAD MAN’S CREEK, Chris Hammer – The Times Crime Book of the Year
THE RUNNING GRAVE, Robert Galbraith – The Sunday Times Best Crime Book of the Year
SQUEAKY CLEAN, Callum McSorley
THE BROKEN AFTERNOON, Simon Mason
THE CLOSE, Jane Casey
EVERYBODY KNOWS, Jordan Harper
THE LOCK-UP, John Banville
THIRTY DAYS OF DARKNESS, Jenny Lund Madsen
THE PREY, Yrsa Sigurdardottir
KILLING MOON, Jo Nesbo
BLACK RIVER, Nilanjana Roy
THE DETECTIVE, Ajay Chowdhury
A LINE IN THE SAND, Kevin Powers
THE MYSTERY OF YEW TREE HOUSE, Lesley Thomson
Comment: I’ve only read 4 of these. Eclectic list. Too much gratuitous violence in KILLING MOON by Jo Nesbo. Ajay Chowdhury should become better known in the U.S. His three-book series (so far) is excellent.
