USA Today’s 15 Best Mysteries to Read in 2023

USA Today’s 15 Best Mysteries
to Read in 2023

I HAVE SOME QUESTIONS, Rebecca Makkai
EVERYONE HERE IS LYING, Shari Lapena
THE SURGEON, Leslie Wolfe
THE HOUSEKEEPERS, Alex Hay
ZERO DAYS, Ruth Ware
THE MAID, Nita Prose – a 2022 mystery
DARK ANGEL, John Sandford
STRANGE SALLY DIAMOND, Liz Nugent
ONE OF US IS BACK, Karen M. McManus
ALL THE SINNERS BLEED, S. A. Cosby
NONE OF THIS IS TRUE, Lisa Jewell
THE VILLA, Rachel Hawkins
THE ONLY ONE LEFT, Riley Sager
THE ONLY SURVIVORS, Megan Miranda
BAD SUMMER PEOPLE, Emma Rosenblum

This list is heavily weighted toward psychological/domestic suspense titles (11 out of 15 titles) and female authors. I suspect that the author of the article is unaware that THE MAID is a 2022 publication and shouldn’t be on a “Best of 2023″ list. But to be fair the list is described as “Best Mysteries to Read in 2023.”

Four of the titles appear on the Deadly Pleasures Best of 2023 list (five if you include THE MAID, which was on last year’s list). I have read four of the titles (ZERO DAYS, THE MAID, DARK ANGEL ALL THE SINNER BLEED). My favorite of those I’ve read is ZERO DAYS by Ruth Ware.
