The list is followed by a long list of Notable Selections, some of which I would use to replace a few of the “best” selections. I have no problems with the first 8 titles on the list. But I do with books such as THE DEVIL TAKES YOU HOME by Gabino Iglesias (Larry and I really disliked this book which was over-the-top with graphic violence and horror). It should be replaced by Danya Kukafka’s NOTES ON AN EXECUTION, Don Winslow’s CITY ON FIRE or Javier Cercas’ EVEN THE DARKEST NIGHT. Other better choices among the Notable Selections are WINTER WORK by Dan Fesperman, SHIFTY’S BOYS by Chris Offutt, THE IT GIRL by Ruth Ware, GOERING’S GOLD by Richard O’Rawe, 1989 by Val McDermid, A WORLD OF CURIOSITIES by Louise Penny, or THINGS WE DO IN THE DARK by Jennifer Hillier
