I went to the Jack Carr signing at the King’s English Bookstore in Salt Lake City last night. It was Jack’s last stop on his IN THE BLOOD tour. He lives not too far away in Park City, Utah. I knew his career was going well but I was pleasantly surprised when he announced that IN THE BLOOD is #1 on The New York Times Bestseller List! There were over 100 people in attendance for the signing, which is very good for the venue. I quite enjoyed IN THE BLOOD and reviewed it favorably in the current issue of DP (page 55).
There were several things that I observed that I consider unusual for such a signing:
- Almost everyone in attendance bought the book to get signed. The line went down to the street and around the corner.
- Almost everyone in the signing line got their photo taken with Jack.
- A few people brought tactical knives and other military/hunting gear for Jack to sign
My good buddy Mystery Mike had sent me about 30 of Jack’s books to get signed so I waited until the end (2 hour wait), but I didn’t waste my time. I listened to an audio book on my phone — Don Winslow’s CITY ON FIRE.
A couple of things that Jack mentioned in his presentation. He signed 800 copies of IN THE BLOOD for the Poisoned Pen Bookstore in Scottsdale, Arizona. His signing in Philadelphia had so many people that it went on until 1:30 in the morning.
If you haven’t read Jack Carr yet, you should start at the beginning with THE TERMINAL LIST. Beware that there is quite a bit of violence and that revenge is the central theme.
Jack is nominated for this year’s Barry Award for Best Thriller. (THE DEVIL’S HAND).
